Holland: Groningen end PSV's long unbeaten run [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]
Amsterdam (Reuters) - Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven's unbeaten streak ended at 21 matches after a 1-0 loss at Groningen.
Yuri Cornelisse's strike a minute before the break condemned Guus Hiddink's side to defeat. PSV remain in fourth place, five points behind the leading three.
Shota Arveladze and Kenneth Perez scored twice in AZ Alkmaar's 4-2 win over Ajax Amsterdam.
AZ are back on top with the maximum 15 points after five matches, ahead of Feyenoord, who also have a perfect record following their 5-1 crushing of Heerenveen at home.
RKC Waalwijk, level on points but behind AZ and Feyenoord on goal difference, are third following their 2-0 win at Heracles Almelo. Ajax stay eighth with six points and a match in hand.
Ajax dominated the first half-hour against Alkmaar and took a 10th-minute lead when Wesley Sneijder shot home from 20 metres.
Former Ajax striker Arveladze equalised 10 minutes before the interval in a goalmouth scramble, before handing his side the lead with his ninth goal of the season two minutes later.
On the stroke of half-time Sneijder made it 2-2, curling in a free kick out of reach of Henk Timmer.
Danish international Perez sealed the win with two goals on 56 and 58 minutes. First he lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Hans Vonk from the edge of the area and then struck again with a fierce shot from 25 metres.
Ajax finished with 10 men after Olaf Lindenbergh was dismissed two minutes from time for elbowing Arveladze.
Feyenoord put paid to Heerenveen with five second-half goals after the visitors had gone ahead through Ugur Yildirim's superb free kick on 12 minutes.
Dirk Kuijt equalised with a curled shot from outside the box, just before Heerenveen were reduced to 10 men after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's red card in the 61st minute.
Central defender Andre Bahia scored the second from close range and Kuijt added the third before Patrick Paauwe and Salomon Kalou completed the rout.
Utrecht won their first league match of the season with a 1-0 victory at home to Vitesse Arnhem, Hans Somers scoring the decisive goal in the 35th minute.
