Belgium: Bruges' Joos out for six weeks [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]
Club Bruges will be without Joos Valgaeren for at least six weeks after the defender underwent surgery on a knee injury.
The 29-year-old has been struggling with a niggling knee problem in recent weeks and finally went under the knife in a bid to cure the injury.
Valgaeren is now likely to miss the UEFA Champions League clashes with Bayern Munich and Rapid Vienna, posing further problems for Bruges coach Jan Ceulemans, who is already missing the services of Michael Klukowski, Rune Lange, Ivan Gvozdenovic, Manasseh Ishiaku, Philippe Clement, Tomislav Butina and Sebastian Hermans.
And Ceulemans is hoping to see an end to his injury woes.
"It can stop now," said the coach.
"I must be happy, I think, that I have in Jason Vandelannoite at least one central defender that I can use. And that guy is only 18 years old.
"Hopefully (Marek) Spilar will also stay fit for a while now."
