Holland: Good wins for AZ, Feyenoord [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]

AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord have joined RKC Waalwijk at the top of the Eredivisie after maintaining their 100% starts to the new season.

RKC won 2-0 at newly-promoted Heracles to gain sole possession of top spot, but AZ and Feyenoord were impressive winners 24 hours later.

Louis van Gaal led Ajax to the 1995 UEFA Champions League title, but he showed his former employers little sympathy as AZ crushed the Amsterdammers 4-2.

Wesley Sneijder put Ajax in front after 10 minutes, but two goals in three minutes from Shota Arveladze handed AZ the initiative.

Sneijder equalised on the stroke of half-time, only for a Kenneth Perez double to condemn Ajax, who had Olaf Lindenbergh sent off late on, to their second defeat of the season.

Feyenoord went one better, beating Heerenveen 5-1 at De Kuip.

Dirk Kuyt scored twice for Erwin Koeman's men to add to efforts from Andre Bahia, Patrick Paauwe and Salomon Kalou.

Ugur Yildirim had handed Heerenveen an early lead but they then fell apart, their misery compounded by the sending-off of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar shortly after the hour mark.

Defending champions PSV Eindhoven are now five points adrift of the joint-leaders following a 1-0 defeat at FC Groningen - Yuri Cornelisse grabbing the only goal.

Zsombor Kerekes and Tom Caluwe scored as Willem II won 2-0 at Roda JC, while Hans Somers was FC Utrecht's matchwinner against Vitesse Arnhem.
