Greece: FC Xanthi move up to second [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]
FC Xanthi's early season promise in Greece continued with a 2-0 win over Apollon Kalamarias in the third round of the Ethniki Katigoria.
Stavros Labriakos scored the opener for Xanthi after 26 minutes, with Luciano securing the points a minute before the interval.
The win moves Xanthi up to second in the standings, two points behind leaders Olympiacos, while Atromitos are now third thanks to a 4-0 demolition of OFI Crete.
Nikos Skarmoutsos, Giannis Katemis, Markos Dimos and Giorgos Koutsis all hit the target for the hosts, who were also helped by the 55th-minute dismissal of OFI's Nikos Machlas.
AEK Athens followed up their midweek UEFA Cup draw against Zenit St Petersburg with another stalemate against Aigaleo - Nikos Liberopoulos scoring AEK's leveller after Danijel Cesarec had put the visitors ahead.
Panathinaikos are still searching for their first win of the season after being held to a goalless draw by Levadiakos, while Panionios and Ionikos fought out a 3-3 thriller.
