Czech Republic: Liberec saved by late penalty [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]

Liberec saw their 100% start to the Czech Republic season end when they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Banik Ostrava.

Having won their opening five matches, Liberec were somewhat surprised when their struggling hosts opened the scoring thanks to Frantisek Rajtoral's 29th-minute strike.

And Banik appeared to be heading for only their second win of the campaign when they were struck a late blow with Tomas Zapotocny converting a last-minute penalty to ensure Liberec's unbeaten run continued.

The Gambrinus Liga leaders still hold a six-point advantage over Mlada Boleslav however, who managed to close the gap slightly with a 3-2 win at Olomouc.

First-half goals from Radim Holub, Jiri Vit and Jan Kysela were enough to seal the win for Boleslav with Ladislav Onofrej and Michal Hudec replying for the hosts.

Brno remain the only club without a win this season after being held to a 2-2 draw at Blsany - David Strihavka grabbing a last-gasp equaliser for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Pribram stumbled to a 3-1 loss at Jablonec, Jihlava edged Most 1-0 and Slavia Prague enjoyed the same result against Tescoma Zlin.
