FIFA appoint foreign ref for Asian World Cup playoff [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]

FIFA has appointed two foreign referees to officiate in the rescheduled first leg Asian Zone World Cup play-off between Uzbekistan and Bahrain.

Swiss referee Massimo Busaka will take control of the first leg that will take place in Tashkent on October 8, while England’s Graham Poll will referee the second leg in Bahrain’s capital Manama four days later.

The original game that took place on September 3 finished 1-0 to the Central Asians, but FIFA declared the result invalid as Japanese referee Toshimitsu Yoshida awarded Bahrain an indirect free kick after disallowing a converted Uzbek penalty.
