Brazil: Sao Paulo keeper scores one penalty, misses another [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]

Rio de Janeiro (Reuters) - Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni missed one penalty and converted another in a 4-2 win over Vasco da Gama in the Brazilian championship.

The win lifted the South American champions to 13th in the 22-team table, as they continued their recovery after a poor run saw them briefly drop into the relegation zone.

Rogerio, the team's captain, free kick and penalty specialist, took his tally this year to 17 goals, including seven in the Brazilian championship.

Sao Paulo made a flying start as Amoroso and Christian put them 2-0 ahead in 10 minutes. Former Borussia Dortmund and Parma striker Amoroso added a third goal before halftime after Abedi had pulled one back for Vasco.

Alex Dias reduced the deficit again in the 53rd minute with a penalty for his 16th goal of the championship before Rogerio came into the action.

He fired his first penalty against the bar on the hour, but made no mistake with the his second chance in injury time.

Internacional, who have 47 points from 26 games, went top with a 3-2 win over Atletico Paranaense as Brazil under-20 international Rafael Sobis grabbed the winner.

Corinthians won by the same scoreline at Figueirense in atrocious conditions to go second, just one point behind the leaders and ahead of Fluminense on goal difference.

Eduardo Ratinho's second-half free kick gave Corinthians the points on a waterlogged pitch in Florianopolis as the home side had defenders Cleber and Carlos Alberto sent off in the last half hour.

Argentine forward Carlos Tevez completed his sixth game without scoring for Corinthians.

Serbian midfielder Dejan Petkovic missed a first-half penalty for Fluminense as they were held 0-0 at Coritiba and dropped from first to third.

The sides shared more than 50 fouls in another game played on a waterlogged pitch. Coritiba had midfielder Jackson sent off for a dangerous sliding tackle in the 44th minute.

Defending champions Santos stayed fifth after losing 3-0 at Atletico Mineiro.
