Germany: Nurnberg suffer Mintal blow [Tue Sep 20th, 2005]

Nurnberg have been dealt a major blow after star midfielder Marek Mintal was ruled out for up to two months with a broken foot.

The Slovakia international - top scorer in the Bundesliga last season - suffered the injury during training without any contact from his team-mates.

The 28-year-old will now miss his country's World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Russia, as well as a number of Bundesliga fixtures.

Nurnberg club doctor Jochen Gruber said: "The bone is not seriously broken, so we have decided on a conservative cure.

"We will put his foot in plaster and he can not play football for the next six weeks at least."

Mintal had already missed Nurnberg's last two games, but a late goal by substitute Markus Schroth ensured Wolfgang Wolf's side claimed a point from their trip to Wolfsburg at the weekend and proved they can cope without him.

They host Schalke in desperate need of points, having collected only two so far.
