Greece defender Dellas joins AEK [Tue Sep 20th, 2005]

Athens (Reuters) - Greek international centre back Traianos Dellas has returned to AEK Athens on a two-year contract, the club said.

Dellas, a member of the Greece team that won Euro 2004, had been out of contract after being released by AS Roma and joined AEK on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old previously played for the Greek club between 1999 and 2001 before moving to Perugia.

"A few years ago, I said that AEK would be the only team for whom I would consider coming back to Greek football. That is what has happened," he said.

"They are the only team I love and where I was loved by the fans."

Dellas is still returning to fitness after a hernia operation and is unlikely to be available for the second leg of AEK's UEFA Cup first round tie against Zenit on September 29.
