Nigeria to bid for 2010 African Nations Cup [Tue Sep 20th, 2005]
Lagos (Reuters) - Nigeria will bid to host the 2010 African Nations Cup tournament, a sports ministry statement said.
Nigerian officials said staging the 2010 Nations Cup would help the country test facilities for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which it wanted to host.
In July, President Olusegun Obasanjo inaugurated a 14-man committee to develop the Commonwealth Games bid, which Africa's most populous country said it wanted to stage to mark its centenary.
Nigeria staged the Nations Cup in 1980 and co-hosted the tournament, held every two years, with neighbours Ghana in 2000.
Egypt is hosting the next Nations Cup from January 20 to February 10, while Ghana had been awarded the 2008 edition.
