Spain: Celta's Canobbio out for two months [Tue Sep 20th, 2005]

Fabián Canobbio has been sidelined for two months after he damaged ankle ligaments in Celta's defeat against Racing Santander at the weekend.

The Uruguayan limped off after just 13 minutes of the match on Sunday and was initially thought to have badly bruised his foot.

But tests have since revealed that he has torn the ligament in his left ankle and will require at least eight weeks to recover.

"After the ultrasound it was discovered that there is a small tear in the peroneum ligament which is at the back of the ankle," Celta club doctor, Juan Jose Crespo explained.

"The player will be put in a plaster cast for two weeks. Then he will undergo six weeks of treatment in order for him to return to the levels he was at before the injury occurred.

"Basically, we will try to ensure he returns in the quickest possible time."
