Spain: Sevilla's Makukula sidelined for up to nine months [Tue Sep 20th, 2005]

Madrid (Reuters) - Sevilla striker Ariza Makukula will be sidelined for between seven and nine months after undergoing surgery on his knee, the Primera Liga club said.

The powerful 24-year-old only managed 13 league appearances for Sevilla last season after joining the Andalucian side from Valladolid in the summer of 2004.

He had missed six months of the previous season after tearing the cruciate ligaments in his knee and last September underwent further surgery after damaging ligaments in the same knee during a friendly.

Makukula made a brief return to action at the end of last season but continued to struggle for full fitness, so the club's medical team and the player decided to operate again.
