Sweden: Djurgarden six clear [Tue Sep 20th, 2005]

Djurgarden took a big step towards the championship after an impressive second-half display gave them a 3-1 away victory against their nearest rivals IFK Gothenburg.

Djurgarden are now six points clear of Gothenburg with only four games left to play.

After a goalless first half, Daniel Sjolund put the visitors ahead in the 50th minute, and although Stefan Selakovic levelled for the hosts, they lost Magnus Johansson to a second yellow card with 15 minutes remaining.

That handed the initiative back to Djurgarden, who scored twice in the last nine minutes on the counter-attack through Tobias Hysen and substitute Siyabonga Nomvethe.

Hacken also won on the road at Landskrona, to give them their first win in eight games.

Both teams have lacked form and quality in recent weeks but it was a hard-fought affair, settled by a 75th-minute Dioh Williams goal.

Williams pounced on hesitation in the home defence to score, although goalkeeper Jonas Sandqvist should have done better.

Landskrona had some chances but lacked sharpness and remain third from bottom in a playoff place, while Hacken can breathe more easily after climbing to ninth.

Halmstad could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Elfsborg and are still in danger of slipping into a playoff place.

Halmstad dominated the first half but could not open the scoring until Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson scored with a great strike in the 52nd minute.

However, Elfsborg made a quick reply, with Andreas Klarstrom netting an equaliser two minutes later and the visitors hung on for a deserved draw.

Elsewhere, Hammarby and GIF Sundsvall played out a goalless draw.
