England: Tottenham's Carrick ruled out for two weeks with ankle injury [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]
London (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Carrick will be out for about two weeks after suffering an ankle injury, the Premier League club said.
The England midfielder fell awkwardly during Spurs' League Cup defeat at third division Grimsby Town.
"Michael Carrick twisted his ankle in a bad way. I've seen it on video again," coach Martin Jol told the club's website.
"Thankfully, he's recovering quickly but I think it will take a couple of weeks. So we'll have to play with a new midfield again against Fulham, but at least we have five days to prepare for that game."
Jol hopes to have Dutch international Edgar Davids, who has been out with a groin strain, back for the home Premier League match against Fulham on Monday.
"Edgar has a good chance to play and hopefully he will because it's not just about his quality, it's about his stature and he gives us confidence," Jol said. "That is exactly what we need this season."
