Greece: Panathinaikos release midfielder Basinas [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]

Athens (Reuters) - Greece midfielder Angelos Basinas became a free agent when Panathinaikos said on their website he was being released from his contract.

The 29-year-old, a key member of the Greece side that won Euro 2004, made his debut for the Panathinaikos first team in the 1995-96 season.

He has been the subject of transfer talk and had agreed personal terms with English premier league side Birmingham City, but talks broke down when the two clubs failed to agree a fee.
