Germany: Voeller rules out taking Leverkusen job [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]

Frankfurt (Reuters) - Rudi Voeller has ruled out taking the coaching job at Bayer Leverkusen himself, even after tasting triumph in his first match in temporary charge.

Voeller, the former Germany coach who now holds the post of director of football at Leverkusen, took over the running of the team after Klaus Augenthaler was sacked.

The players responded with a 3-1 win at MSV Duisburg on Sunday.

Voeller will be in charge again when Leverkusen host Cologne, and he is hoping it will be for the last time.

"It's clear to me that I can be of more use to Leverkusen in the role of director of football," Voeller said at a news conference.

"We have a candidate in mind for the post of coach. We want someone with new ideas."

Matthias Sammer, who lost his job as VfB Stuttgart coach at the end of last season, is regarded as the favourite to replace Augenthaler.
