Czech Republic: Poborsky steps down as Sparta Prague captain [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]
Prague (Reuters) - Sparta Prague's Karel Poborsky quit as club captain before a Czech Cup third-round match, Sparta said on their website.
The 33-year-old Czech international had been unhappy with the decision of manager Jaroslav Hrebik to leave him on the bench for the last two league matches.
Sparta, who play Ajax Amsterdam, Arsenal and Thun in UEFA Champions League Group B, refused to comment on Poborsky's decision. Goalkeeper Jaroslav Blazek is likely to take over as captain.
Sparta beat fourth division side Litvinov 7-1, with Poborsky staying on the pitch until the final whistle but Hrebik was not at the game, choosing to watch Swiss team Thun before the teams meet next week.
Sparta have won just one of their last four league matches.
