Brazil: Injury to Flamengo striker Lucas scraps signing [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]

Centre-forward Lucas, currently playing Japan’s J-League, has fallen victim to an injury that scuppers plans for the Brazilian to reinforce the Urubu attack. The player suffered a concussion in the clash between his team, FC Tokyo, and Yokohama F-Marinos.

The head injury means that Lucas is strictly forbidden from flying during the next 30 days, and this means that he couldn’t be written into the Flamengo squad as the deadline for new inscriptions is Friday the 30th September.

Without Lucas, Flamengo are left depending on the talents of Paraguayan Cesar Ramirez. Despite a heroic debut in the last Brasileirão game against São Caetano, Ramirez prefers to spread the credit throughout the squad.

“Ever since I arrived here I’ve been made to feel at home. There’s a really good atmosphere at this club, and it’s a pleasure to form part of such an emblematic club as Flamengo. The squad is brimming over with quality footballers and I hope to help Flamengo to further wins, as we all do”.
