Brazil: Santos coach Gallo to modify team that faces Palmeiras [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]

Peixe coach Gallo has to balance the rough with the smooth in their home match against Palmeiras at the Vila Belmiro.

The good news is the return of craggy defender Ávalos, midfield utility man Wendel and ex-Corinthians left-back Kléber, all back after serving suspensions, as well as Fabinho, back to match fitness after a muscular injury.

On the rough side, he has to deal with the sun going down on midfielder Élton and the absence of centre-forward Diego. Both sit the classic Paulista derby out after receiving their third yellow card against Atlético Mineiro.

The biggest handicap will be the continued KO of playmaker Giovanni (ex-Barça, Olympiakos).

With a worrying streak of three games without a win, pressure is beginning to mount on Wanderley Luxemburgo’s successor.

To complicate things even further, Gallo’s Santos face Fluminense next Sunday at Volta Redonda in a classic Paulista-Carioca derby. It’s make or break for the tactician in rounds 27 and 28 of the Brasileirão.
