Italy: Iaquinta frozen out of Udinese squad [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]

Vincenzo Iaquinta’s magical moment has come to an abrupt end, as the Udinese striker has opted not to extend his stay with the club. For this reason he has been dropped out of the squad indefinitely.

Following the goals which have pushed Udinese to the top places of Serie A and the great start to the UEFA Champions League adventure, Iaquinta’s season now looks compromised, including his chances of playing for the national team in the 2006 World Cup, unless he decides to sign a new contract with the Bianconeri.

This was confirmed by the General Director of the club, Pietro Leonardi, who declared:

“He’s the only player who does not recognize himself in the ‘Udinese Project’ of sporting solidarity, aimed at achieving the important targets reached and to reach. All the team players have shown a lot of trust in the Udinese essence, some of them renewing their contracts without exceptions. Vincenzo Iaquinta puts himself, today, in a distant optic from the common project."

This means that Iaquinta will have to miss out on tonight’s big match against league leaders Juventus.
