Scotland: League Cup holders Rangers sink Clyde with late burst [Wed Sep 21st, 2005]
Glasgow (Reuters) - Scottish League Cup holders Rangers struck three times in extra time to beat first division Clyde 5-2 and book a quarter-final place.
Belgian Thomas Buffel fired Rangers ahead after five minutes but Clyde, managed by former Rangers and Spurs defender Graham Roberts, equalised through Craig Bryson soon after half-time.
Stephen O'Donnell fired home a penalty after 73 minutes to put Clyde ahead but Buffel rescued Rangers a minute later to take the third-round match into extra time.
Rangers then overpowered the lower league club, Argentine Federico Nieto scoring twice and Marvin Andrews completing the scoring.
Premier league Aberdeen needed second-half goals from Jamie Smith and Barry Nicholson to beat first division part-timers Stranraer 2-0, Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated Dundee United 2-0 and Dunfermline won 4-3 at Kilmarnock.
First division St Mirren took Premier League Motherwell into extra time before losing 2-0.
