Bosnia name squad for San Marino and Serbia World Cup qualifiers [Thu Sep 29th, 2005]
Sarajevo (Reuters) - Bosnia and Herzegovina coach Blaz Sliskovic has named a 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino at home on October 8 and away to Serbia and Montenegro on October 12.
Sliskovic said he might rest several players who have a yellow card, such as Hasan Salihamidzic of Bayern Munich, for the San Marino match which they are expected to win easily.
A second yellow card would rule Salihamidzic out of the potentially decisive game against Serbia through suspension.
With two matches left Serbia and Montenegro top group seven on 16 points, Spain are second on 14, followed by Bosnia on 13, Belgium on 11 and Lithuania on 9. San Marino have no points.
"The most important thing is to win against San Marino. We have 23 players who are all ready for a real accomplishment," Sliskovic told a news conference.
He said he hoped that Muhamed Konjic of Derby County, who is still recovering from this month's cheek bone operation, would be fit for the match against Serbia and Montenegro.
"He is just the right type of player we need for such a match," Sliskovic said.
