Deportivo Preview
Overview:
They have a very bad image in recent years and are no longer the team we knew. Many important players left or retired and the economic situation (or the president) didn't allow Depor to replace them. Even Javier Irureta left the team. Depor are traditionally strong on the road, taking advantage of skilful wingers. At home they used to be powerful (Milan?), but not recently. Last year they had no creativity at all, especially since Valeron got injured. So, they started to lose at home and strike through counters on the road. They also had no real striker in their roster.

Depor made many new signings and most of them are really good. Some of the top players in the Primera Liga are in Coruna now. Many 'old' players left (César, Romero, Molina, Héctor, Victor, Munitis) and an effective renewal is taking place. Goalkeeper Aouate, central defender Lopo, midfielder Juan Rodríguez and forwards Riki (left), Estoyanoff (right) are excellent players, ready to help. The bad thing is Valeron got injured again (30/7) and will lose six months before he is fit again.
Verdict:
Joaquín Caparrós has another opportunity to work with the team. If the president leaves him alone, then all will be good. We can expect a new era in Coruna. Depor will be quicker and more effective on counters. Still, don’t trust them at home, especially without Valeron. They will fight for a place in the top 6-7.
