EPL Soccer Tip Preview - 28/10/2006

There is a full slate of premiership football matches this weekend, and several stand out as worthwhile wagering tips.

I am not obsessed with celebrities, but I have a real connection with Paul McCartney. I admit I've got no musical talent, and I would happily kill my own mother for just a bacon sandwich; but I do know what it is like to get grief from a legless woman.

By coincidence, Martin Jol has much in common with the former Beatle; they are only a success thanks to Lennon. With young Aaron back to full form, Tottenham are a confident tip at 2.20 odds to leave Watford with a victory.

I have seen some tough customers in my time, but I have never seen a person bite into a hammer. Sink your teeth into the 6/1 odds for Jermain Defoe to score the opener.

Chelsea have visited Bramall Lane twice before in the English Premier League and lost both times. In my opinion, that statistic is about as useful as Titus Bramble. It is fair to say that the outcome of the Sheffield United versus Chelsea match is a foregone conclusion; Chelsea are dead certs at 1.36.

I tried reproducing the match on a computer game last night, but the PC exploded when Andriy Shevchenko shared a pitch with Daniel Shittu. Sheva seems a certainty to score at any time at evens.

Jose Mourinho has been accused of failing to tell the whole truth this week, which is like accusing a bear of being hairy. With coach Neil Warnock on the scene, there is as much chance of it going off on the touchline as there is on the field, I would be lying if I thought that the 3.50 for a player or manager to be sent off was not appealing.

Jamie Carragher must be having sleepless nights because of Liverpool's poor start to the Premier League season; I am also having a hard time getting my head down at night. Steven 'overdue a transfer request' Gerrard is ostensibly unhappy with life under Rafa Benitez. I'll tip Aston Villa to leave Anfield with a point at 3.60 odds.

Brett Emerton thinks that morale at Blackburn is exceptionally high because of Robbie Savage's practical jokes. (I especially like the one where he goes down grabbing his face for no apparent reason.) Blackburn will be without the funny blonde for the trip to a desperate West Ham; you must back the Rovers at 2.80 odds.

Arsenal have declared that Cesc Fabregas has signed a new eight year contract; even Jamie Theakston has not been tied up for that long. Everton have received a few proper spankings at the hands of the Gunners in recent seasons; Arsenal are best soccer tip of the weekend at 1.44 to beat them again.

David Moyes would give his right arm to leave the Emirates Stadium with a point, but that trade has only ever worked for Heather Mills. The Toffees have allowed 26 goals in their last 7 EPL trips to Highbury, a 3-0 win for Arsenal tempts at 10.00 odds.

Manchester City were absolutely killed by an average Wigan football team last week; Beenie should never have allowed Pearce pick the team. Ben Thatcher returns to the squad for City, Middlesbrough can steal a point at a (forearm) smashing 3.25.

Newspapers often make errors. I saw the headline 'Heskey scores a wonder goal' last week of course it should have said, 'Heskey scores a goal...wonders will never cease'. Fulham against Wigan is a great match for trend followers; the team playing at home in the EPL has won the last eight games. The Cottagers are a good tip at 2.10.

Iain Dowie is somewhat like the sun, you should never look straight at him. I am guessing that the tension must be showing as a result of Charlton's horrible form, Newcastle are the tip at 1.80 to add to Dowie's season of shame.

Andy Cole has announced that he wants to be known as 'Andrew' from now on. Andy and Kanu are doing very well for Portsmouth; I find it hard to believe that they have not had a hip replaced. Pompey have an easy looking soccer match on paper at home to Reading; I like the draw at 3.40 odds if played on grass.

Coleen McLoughlin deserves lots of credit; when faced with the tough question of what do you give a man who's got everything; she swerved the easy answer of 'Slim-Fast'. Wayne's 21st birthday celebrations won't be dampened at the Reebok, Man United will defeat the Wanderers at 1.91.

This week's accumulator is so good, Madonna is considering adopting it. Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U, Fulham and Tottenham are the tips, the payout is priced at a nice 14/1.
