Ligue 1 Outright Betting
Odds to win French Ligue 1
Football in France is often overlooked by sports bettors. But what the French league lacks in glamour, it more than makes up for in profitability - at least from a wagering perspective. Predicting the outright winner seems a straightforward proposition. Lyon have established themselves as a footballing dynasty after winning the Ligue 1 title for the past five years on the bounce.
It would be foolish not to think they will make it six as Olympique Lyonnais are arguably among the top ten clubs in European soccer. The bookmakers have installed the French champions at a miniscule 1/10 bet odds to hoist the domestic trophy again. At that price, Lyon are best swerved, despite the near inevitability of their victory.
If forced to pick an alternate Ligue 1 winner, Marseille would be the obvious choice. They could make the title race competitive this year. If Lyon hit a bad run of form, Marseille could even snatch the championship from them. Quoted by the bookies at 10/1, Marseille are worth a speculative punt at that price.
Beyond those two clubs, however, there is little prospect of any other team winning Le Championnat this year. Historically powerful sides like Monaco (50/1) and PSG (50/1) are long shots. Lille, a solid, well organised team can be backed at 25/1.
