Italian Soccer - Serie A

We are already on week four of the Italian Serie A and there are three matches on Sunday that are interesting from a betting standpoint. AC Milan are quietly climbing up the table and reducing their eight point penalty. It would make for a dramatic season if the Rossoneri can turn the Scudetto challenge into a three horse race with Inter Milan and Roma. Here is a preview of three matches on the card:

Sampdoria v Parma
Samp have won seven of their last 12 home games against Parma. Francesco Flachi is still suspended for his habit of betting on football matches. Sampdoria have been a resilient side this season, and it’s fair to say they’ve had their fair share of luck. Down 3-0 to Udinese, they came back and recovered a 3-3 draw. Parma have lost three of their four matches this year, but they faced a tough opening set of fixtures. Those losses came against Roma, Fiorentina and AC Milan. So in this match Parma have their best chance to pick up a point. But they have scored just one goal this season and are expected to struggle to avoid relegation. Parma are also missing several players to injury and suspension, so punters might be attracted to a Sampdoria home win at 1.80 odds.

Roma v Empoli
As expected for a team many feel will win this year’s Scudetto, Roma have hit the ground running. They’ve won three of their four Serie A matches so far, scoring nine goals in the process. But the Giallorossi are coming off a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Valencia. Coach Luciano Spalletti will expect his team to bounce back against Empoli. Roma have some injury worries, however. Mancini, Martinez, Taddei and Vucinic are out. Empoli have had a fantastic start to the season, unbeaten in their first four games. But they have not yet faced a top level side like Roma, which explains why the hosts are so heavily favoured in this match. Still, Empoli are no pushovers and can give Roma a run for their money. They are a tempting choice on the Asian handicaps with a +1.5 goal start.

Cagliari v Inter Milan
Cagliari cannot be pleased with their Italian league season so far. The Sardinians are winless in their first four games. Historically their home ground has been something of a fortress, with visiting teams intimidated by the passion of Sardinia’s fans. There are serious doubts that will be enough to help Cagliari against Serie A’s top team this year. But Inter will be without the services of Patrick Vieira, Esteban Cambiasso and Julio Cruz. Winning away from home will be that much tougher for the Nerazzurri. The last three meetings between these teams in Cagliari have ended in draws. At 3.50 bet odds, another draw might be worth a wager.
