Italian Soccer - Serie A
It is difficult to imaging but Italy’s top soccer league is already in it’s eighth week. With many teams given points deductions, and Juventus relegated to Serie B, the league table looks unusual. But Serie A remains captivating this season, particularly from a wagering point of view.
Palermo have had an incredible start to the season and looked even more impressive after they took a resolute away victory over AC Milan on the weekend. That win put the Sicilians on top of the league table. The Rosanero are now 16/1 bet odds to win the Serie A this year, a price well worth taking (at VCBet bookmaker). They should claim another victory at home on Wednesday in the local derby with Messina. Inter Milan’s Adriano has been so out of shape, manager Roberto Mancini has sent him off to Brazil for to get back his form. But some pundits believe Inter will be without the Brazilian until at least January. In any event, it seems a smart method of rehabilitating Adriano match. If he remains out of form, several top football teams are willing to sign the striker, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Fiorentina. Inter take on a perilous Livorno squad in their next game. Punters should be careful backing an unpredictable Inter side at low odds. To be sure, a bet on Livorno is the smarter wager. AC Milan continue to perform below expectations, and their home defeat to Palermo was no accident, but symptomatic of Milan’s drift from form. There are obviously problems at the Rossoneri. Milan were given and eight point deduction after last year’s Calciopoli scandal. Their goal this term is to overcome that burden and win the Scudetto. That accomplishment will require a near-flawless season, and on current trends Milan will be hard pressed to even claim a top three spot. They are currently 11 points back of adversaries Inter. Rather curiously, Milan are still short priced favourites to win the Italian league at 1.59 odds (at Mansion Exchange). Last weekend’s other unexpected result happened at the Stadio Olimpico. Roma were the massively favoured team, but could only get a 1-1 draw against Chievo Verona. The Romans can be excused, however. Only a few days earlier, and with a very weakened team, the Giallorossi squeaked out a difficult 1-0 victory in Greece against Olympiacos in the Champions League. They are a fantastic price in the outright betting markets at 6.50 and unquestionably worth a bet at those high odds. Bearing in mind they are only two points behind Inter (who are ridiculously odds-on at 1.59), Roma are excellent value to win the Scudetto. Bet on them at 6.50 with BlueSquare bookmaker before they cut that price in midweek, when Roma should collect another home victory against Ascoli. In the lower division, the elite players of Juventus continue to collect victories in a resolute effort to be promoted back to Serie A. The Bianconeri are a cut above and are likely to overcome a huge 17 point penalty. But it could be harder than it looks. Genoa have proven to be tough opposition in Serie B, winning six of their eight matches and holding a 16 point lead over Juventus. They won’t give up without a fight and can pip Juve to the post to win the Italian Serie B title.
