Denmark in Euro 2000 Qualify

The Danes have only qualified for the World Cup finals once before, in 1986, when

they faced Scotland, Germany and Uruguay in the group stages. After winning all three group games,

including a sensational display when they beat the Uruguayans 6-1, they were fancied to go on and

even win the tournament. But four goals from Emilio Butragueno in a 5-1 defeat by Spain in the

second round dashed their hopes.

The Danes qualified for the finals by virtue of winning Group One, fending off the challenge of

Croatia in the process. The Danes will be one of the least fancied sides to do well in June, and they

may well exploit this to their advantage.
