URUGUAY 1930 OUTLOOK

Uruguay 1930 was the first World Cup.
It was the only one that hadn't got qualification rounds.
The european teams that were candidates to host the World Cup (Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Hungary) didn't play. The British teams, didn't do it because of they preferred play amateur events than professional ones. The other teams weren't there arguing that the trip was very long. So, the only 4 european teams were France, Belgium, Yugoslavia and Romania.
Apart from the uruguayans, 6 south-american neighbours participated in the competition: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. The 2 teams remaining teams to complete the 13 were north-american Mexico and the United States, this last team with a lot of Scottish players in its squad.
The 3 stadiums used in the World Cup were the Peņarol's "Pocitos", Nacional's "Parque Central" and Centenario. The "Centenario" stadium was built in 5 months with a capacity of 90.000 people.
The tournament started on July, 13th, at 2 pm. In the inaugural match played in Pocitos stadium, France beat Mexico 4-1. The first goal was the work of frenchman Lucien Laurent, at '19.
France and Argentina played the best match of the First round, Argentina won it 1-0 with a goal scored by Stabile. He scored 3 vs. Mexico and 2 vs. Chile, too, giving Argentina the top place in Pool 1.
Yugoslavia won Pool 2, beating Cinderella Bolivia, and Brazil, who went to Uruguay without their Paulista League players.
In Pool 3, Romania beated Peru, and Uruguay inaugurated Centenario stadium winning the south-americans 1-0.
In Pool 4, USA won its matches vs. Belgium and Paraguay, both 3-0 and advance to semifinals.
Argentina and Uruguay beated USA and Yugoslavia, respectly, for the same bulky score: 6-1.
At 2:10 pm on July, 30th, the teams from Argentina and Uruguay went into the field to play the First World Cup Final.
Dorado (the youngest player in the tournament) put ahead Uruguay 1-0.
In the 1st Half, Peucelle and Stabile gave Argentina the partial victory: 2-1.
In the 2nd Half, Cea scored for the local team, leaving the match level 2-2.
Santos Iriarte with a long shot from 30 meters put Uruguay ahead 3-2.
And in the last minute of game, with Argentina going to tie the game, Castro with a header gived Uruguay the 4-2 victory and the First World Cup.
The courage of the Charruas create the expresion of plough blood.
