ITALY 1934 OUTLOOK

Italy 1934 was the second World Cup.
The World Cup of Italy was held under the governement of Mussolini. Italy had to win the cup, they hadn't another chance.
Because, the high quantity of teams that wanted to go to Italy (32), FIFA implemented the First Qualifying Rounds and the surprising thing was that Italy had to play it, in spite of the fact that were the hosts of the event.
Uruguay didn't go because of the boicot they suffered at their home 4 years before, just done by most of the european teams, becoming the only World Cup champion not defending their crown. Argentina left their professional players at home. It could be Argentina's first title, if they had taken to Europe. The British teams and U.S.S.R. didn't want to participate in the qualifiers.
The show began on May, 27th, with all the matches played this day in different locations.
Germany rolled over Belgium 5-2. Austrian Wunderteam beat France 3-2 in overtime. Hungary, Netherlands and Czechoslovakia advanced without problems. The Argentines losing to Sweden created a discussion:Whether to play well or play to win?
The 1st Round best match was Spain beating Brazil 3-1.
Italy wasted out United States 7-1 with 4 argentines in their lineup: Orsi, Monti, Guatia and Demaria.
In the 2nd Round Germany and Czechoslovakia went to semis winning their games, like Austria did with Hungary 2-1 in a match with the two best strikers in the world that time: Austrian Sinderlar, and Hungarian Sarosi. This match, had got the most quantity of fouls and tackles, you've ever seen.
italy beat Spain in an overtime game just the day after the 1st match. Spain's goalkeeper Zamora had a brilliant performance in the 1st game but he was'nt fit to play in the 2nd one. The referee of the 2nd match, the Swiss Macet was suspended for life after his terrible judgement didn't let Spain advanced to Semis.
In Semifinals Italy beated Austria and Czechoslovakia beat Germany.
Germany won its game against Austria 3-2 in the 3rd Place game.
On June 10th, italy and Czechoslovakia played the final.
At 70th minute, Puc put in the lead the visitors. Czechoslovakia 1-0.
At 80th minute, thanks to a rebound, Orsi tied the game 1-1.
5 minutes into the overtime, Schiavio assisted by Meazza gived the host team the title. Italy won the game 2-1.
With this 2nd World Cup, and the important prizes gived by Mussolini to the Italian players a simple equation had begun.
